A Growing Purpose
Gardener #3 asks: Is gardening really about gardening ... or is it about "everything else" ?? Should I not become one with nature as I get back to the land? Should I not begin vibrating with vibrancy as I toil and sweat? I just know that when I am out there hacking away at the clay and stones, my mind goes somewhere else. So much for being present. Sure, I hear the birds chortling and chittering, I feel the sun at my back, the land underfoot, and I know the blackflies are feasting on my epidermis, but my thoughts ... my thoughts are somewhere else. Can I be fully experiencing the experience when my mind is meandering uncontrollably? This, I believe, is truly what it is all about ... allowing time for the rambling thoughts of a 53 yr old woman.

It's all about the Plot
The digging started 2-3 weeks ago; sod carved out, rocks tossed, and precious topsoil, manure, & compost added to what will be our first vegetable garden plot at 67. The experts say that building good soil is the first and most important job of a gardener. Poor soil = poor/no plants. And so we'll put effort into that brown stuff in hopes of creating some gorgeous dark loam in a few years.
I think we'll have many opportunities to develop our patience!
